October 19, 2023DescriptionIntroductionWe are currently looking for entrepreneurial, mission-driven, inclusive individuals with strong initiative to help lead Canada Learning Code programs in cities across Canada. This is a volunteer position.Empower people in Canada to learn beginner-friendly technical skills, build a community of individuals with an interest in the tech industry, gain experience planning large and small events (our learning experiences), while supporting a charitable cause!CompanyCanada Learning Code is Canada #39;s leading national charity championing computer science education. Canada Learning Code is proud to work from coast-to-coast-to-coast to make sure that everyone in Canada has access to the knowledge they need to prosper in our digital world.Originally founded as Ladies Learning Code in 2011, the organization has evolved to run programming for adults, youth and educators through our Ladies, Girls, Kids, Teens and Teachers Learning Code programs. Today, Canada Learning Code operates in over 250 communities across the country, driving impact through program design and delivery, strategic industry and public partnerships, research and advocacy. To date, the organization has had over 775,000 learners attend an in-person or live online experience.Position Overview Being a Chapter Lead means:Helping Canadians learn beginner-friendly technical skills in a social and collaborative way Building a network of technical and tech-savvy people in your city and community Running large and small, hands-on, project based workshops and events Making Canada Learning Code’s Programs available to people in your city and communityResponsibilities: Organize Ladies Learning Code program educational experiences. Guidelines:Be the “face of Canada Learning Code” in your community and represent our organization in a positive way. Solicit mentors to meet the high ratio of learners-to-mentors Workshops usually take place on Saturdays or Sundays or evenings and are BYOL (“bring your own laptop”) We do our best to run 6-9 experiences per year in our Chapter communities - but this is flexible based on the needs and demands of individual regions and the capacity of our Chapter Teams.Tasks:Find a talented Lead Instructor for each workshop from the local tech community and select a topic from the Canada Learning Code content library Choose a date for the workshop Communicate workshop details to the HQ team so that we can launch registration and promote via social media Manage the logistics of each experience. This includes the EventBrite page (registration and waitlisting), the physical setup (taking the needs of the learner and their health and safety into account), and any post-experience follow-up. Manage a local budget, learner goals and targetsCompanyWhat We’ll Take Care of For You:Running workshops is a lot of work. In order to help you make your city’s Canada Learning Code Chapter a success, we’ll be supporting our Chapter Leads in a variety of ways. We take care of:Developing content – we’ve already developed dozens of workshops for you to choose from, and continue to develop new content to meet our communities’ needs Some administrative, registration and accounting support – this can be time-consuming, so we’ll be managing it centrally. PR and Marketing support – social media, email newsletters, press outreach, and more, although we encourage Chapter Leads to do local promotion within their networks and communities as well. Community Development support – to maintain a high ratio of students-to-instructors at workshops in your city, you’re going to need the support of your tech community. We can help with that. Fundraising – We provide internal grants/funds to support your Chapter and will handle all large sponsorships, while fully supporting you if you seek local sponsorships and partnerships Ongoing support from the Canada Learning Code HQ team – we’re here to help as you grow your chapter from an idea into reality.What We Expect from Canada Learning Code Chapter Leads:Accountability It is important that you work well with your local community to make sure all invested parties – from instructors to sponsors to attendees – have a great experience with Canada Learning Code education experiences. Communicating the Canada Learning Code Message Understand and communicate the organization and program messages and value proposition at each event you facilitate. Representing Canada Learning Code to the Local Community Build and grow a community around your Chapter of learners, instructors, mentors and partners, as well as understand how to work with and what to expect from the local media. Ensuring Quality Event Execution Everything from greeting and directing participants and mentors to answering questions and helping troubleshoot. The Chapter Leads will ensure events are coordinated and executed properly.
