You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.The Opportunity: The incumbent will be a member of the Investment Technology team with key responsibilities for the investment systems and processes leveraged to manage Equitable assets. They will be responsible for spearheading a variety of research, analysis and develop projects to strategically guide effective investment processes. This will include theoretical, operational, and reporting topics covering an extensive list of categories such as individual security modelling, fund valuation, portfolio analytics, portfolio monitoring, trade order flow and portfolio management.For each project the incumbent must provide all initial research and procedural methodology; support a timely and efficient implementation, while continually evaluating current conditions and procedures for future improvement.This role is essential when aligning Corporate goals and resources of the Investment Division #39;s needs and provide support to Financial reporting, Taxation and Actuarial. The incumbent is a key employee who significantly contributes to the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of the Investment division and Equitable.Responsible for analysis, process design, program coding, testing, implementing of scripts and processes within Investments. Responsible for the strategic development of the Quantitative infrastructure and its implementation to ensure that the entire team can react to issues and develop new solutions effectively. Also responsible for managing third party applications (hosted internally or externally), providing internal support, coordination with vendor resources, and maintaining complex production applications. Responsible for afterhours support on a rotating basis, including carrying a company supplied mobile device.Analysis of production system problems and recommend workable solutions with the ability to approve fixes in time sensitive systems where the changes represent minimal risks. Responsible for performance tuning of quantitative automation processes, web interface, and maintenance operations with the ability to approve changes where they represent minimal risks to sensitive functions.What you will be doing:

  • Portfolio Management:
  • Fund Valuation - Responsible to ensure appropriate and robust fund valuation processes including input data validation components, final unit value validation processes and communication of results to downstream systems. Ensuring the process can adapt to changes in the environment (disruptions), security specifics, or other management changes all while delivering accurate and robust unit value calculations.
  • Trade process flow - Responsible for ensuring accurate, efficient and robust trade flow processes going from generation, constraint testing (such as trade authority limits), delivery to execution platform, reporting and integration into the portfolio management system
  • Security Modelling - apply knowledge and experience to ensure security modelling handles current and future needs in a scalable manner across a wide variety of asset types
  • Quantitative Analytics - design and implementation of internally developed tools to monitor exposure and compliance limits, trade reporting and performance attribution tools
  • Quantitative portfolio management - development of portfolio management tools to integrate market data and portfolio positions to improve decision making with portfolio positioning and security selection.
  • Technical Development:
  • Apply statistical analysis with detailed security and/or asset class knowledge into effective solutions through programming to accomplish project objectives in a scalable, maintainable, efficient fashion.
  • Provide detailed technical spec documents for proposed projects and modifications for use by other team members
  • Create Extraction, Transformation and Loading processes at an expert level (well-organized and structured programs), maintenance, testing and documentation
  • Ability to write/maintain and SQL Queries, Calculations/Manipulations, and Views
  • Unit test all changes to ensure data integrity, performance consistency, and functional acceptability.
  • Responsible for providing documentation as required by the team/business users for testing and future support.
  • Contribute business and technical expertise to the development and planning process in projects.
  • Remain current on the rapidly changing technology as it relates to support for the investment processes and quantitative infrastructure.
  • Relationship Management:
  • Lead interaction with our business users (from within Investments, Actuarial, Finance, IT) to address current and future business needs.
  • Day to day leadership and oversight of Investment Analyst and Developers responsible for training, issue resolutions, design assistance and general guidance.
  • Manage assigned work to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities as set by senior staff.
  • Provide supervisor/ project manager with status updates on progress and outstanding issues.
  • Ensure effective communication within the team.
  • Work closely with team members, internal IT, external service providers to develop alternative solutions to meet business needs.
  • Interpret and communicate complex system support and processes to staff in aquot;user-friendly quot; manner (both written and verbal)
  • Project Management:
  • Lead the development of the strategy to address constraints in the most cost-effective means.
  • Working with the Investment business areas to identify possible technical/procedural constraints in order to meet project objectives.
  • The preparation of business specifications, while adhering to procedural compliance and industry standards and legislation constraints.
  • The preparation of test plan and test case documentation followed by execution of all test plans.
  • Contribute to the planning of a detailed timeline schedule.
  • The identification of potential hazards and the control of risks/expenditures
  • The timely and efficient implementation of the associated process and system changes/enhancements
  • Post implementation monitoring and evaluation to ensure a cost effective transition.
  • Contribute to the development of procedures, training materials, and facilitate meetings with business areas for technical training.
What you will bring:
  • 5+ years experience building and supporting technology solutions
  • 3+ years experience dealing with a portfolio management system from an architecture and data perspective (PAM preferred)
  • 3+ years experience in Investment technology field
  • Strong Knowledge of Database concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of different investments including: equities, fixed income, preferred shares, derivatives, mortgages, private placements, segregated funds
  • Post secondary degree in technology or investment related field
