Job Description

Lead Material Handler - PackagingThis position is for an 8 am to 4:30 pm Shift (with the ability to work off shifts to cover vacation)How will you make an impactWhen you’re part of the team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you’ll do important work, like helping customers in finding cures for cancer, protecting the environment or making sure our food is safe and you’ll be valued and recognized for your performance. To ensure required components in appropriate quantities are approved by Quality. Conduct physical inventory and investigation to control/verify the accuracy of information and materials.Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and delivery of materials to/from packaging lines.
  • Monitor packaging schedule to ensure that jobs are staged and delivered in a timely manner
  • Complete vital inspections and reconcile material usage for presence and correctness of pallet ID, expiry date and general package appearance.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance (QA) to ensure timely release of components and bulk to packaging.
  • Assist in the control and security of narcotics pallets during transit, finished goods and arranging delivery and pick up of narcotics to and from the vault.
  • Accurately complete batch documents including batch entries, checks, labour reporting, and downtime.
  • Print Material Request List and all relevant documentation.
  • Conduct inventory control transactions using SAP.
  • Responsible for removing finished goods from the packaging line (incl. wrap & label).
  • Connect with affected departments to ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Responsible for providing training to junior Material Handlers or temporary employees (if necessary).
  • Support Packaging dept. through training staff; assist on packaging line when necessary.
  • Align with established safety regulations and wear the prescribed safety equipment (ongoing).
  • Provide support in monitoring performance measures and advise management of potential quality or regulatory issues that may affect product quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
How will you get thereRequirementsEducation:
  • Minimum High School Diploma.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or food processing plant
  • Mathematical proficiency
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good organization skills and an ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Proven track record to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations
  • Willing and able to perform shift work
  • Proficiency in the English Language
Competencies:
  • Experience in mentoring, leading, and/or supervising a group or project preferred
  • Previous experience with manual and electrical lift trucks would be an asset
  • Self-starter who works independently
