Your Opportunity:The Unit Clerk at the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre is responsible for managing the flow of information and providing clerical support to staff and physicians in the Acute Care Department at the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre. The Unit Clerk reports to the Care Manager and works under limited supervision and is primarily responsible to: Transcribes and processes physician orders including medication, laboratory, diagnostic imaging and treatment orders as well as other diagnostic studies. Co-ordinates and schedules patient tests and treatment. Contact patients to advise of admission, discharge and appointment dates and arranges patient transportation. Maintains patient records and charts. Routinely checks patient discharge documents for omissions and signatures and distributes admissions and discharge forms and charts to appropriate departments. Greets and directs visitors, patients and staff. Answers, transfers or relays messages on incoming calls. Assists in the distribution/posting and filing or written information on the unit. Prepares and updates assignment sheets as required. Performs backup staffing duties as assigned, where applicable. Performs patient registration where assigned. Meditech entry. Performs other duties as required.Description:As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
