Job Description

ALS provides a broad range of testing and analytical services to a wide variety of end markets and industries around the globe. We continue to remain a leader in the testing services industry and have established a distinguished reputation for providing best in class results and client services.Client Services / LoginLocation: ALS Environmental, WhitehorseReports to: Client Services SupervisorAbout the PositionThis position will work as part of the client services team to ensure that ALS fulfills its customer service commitments and provides excellent customer service to our clients. This is an integral role for coordinating and entering samples through the analytical process.Specific Responsibilities

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Act as the primary contact for clients dropping off samples as well as phone reception for enquiries;
  • Login client samples and analytical requests into the ALS database (LIMS) including layout and labelling of samples;
  • Prepare completed login sets for shipping to other ALS Environmental Laboratories for analyses including all appropriate paperwork;
  • Provide notification of submitted samples and any rush or special requests to the processing laboratories;
  • Work within established SOPs and Health and Safety protocols;
  • Enter client bottle requests into the LIMS and assist with order preparation when needed (back-up role);
  • Relay client enquiries to the appropriate Project Manager(s) as well as cost estimates and opportunities to Sales and Management.
  • Act as back-up location lead when the Supervisor is absent;
  • Receive and verify ordered supplies and enter new orders when needed (back-up role);
  • Assist in tracking supplies and sample shipments, when needed;
  • Arrange for local ground carriers to deliver bottle orders;
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs (coolers) and deliver shipments to the airport (back-up role);
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Extremely strong customer service orientation and willingness to help clients;
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Organized, detailed oriented and able to work independently;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Strong computer skills and aptitude to learn new laboratory database for login;
Required Qualifications
  • At least 2 years experience in Environmental Chemistry or related field (lesser qualified applicants may be hired at an adjusted level/classification);
  • Valid Canadian Class 5 driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required);
  • Science Degree or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or related Science discipline (preferred, not required).
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs/23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours.
