Job Description

This posting is for one full-time permanent position, working 75 hours biweekly.At Tourism and Culture, we are a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to Yukon’s vibrant tourism, arts, heritage and culture, historic sites, and archival communities. We are passionate about our pride in Yukon, the beauty of its land, the character of its people, and the uniqueness of its history and culture.The Yukon Archives’ mission is to acquire, preserve, and provide access to Yukon’s documentary heritage for the understanding and appreciation of all. Our mandate for documentary heritage is broad, including archival records from government and private sources and published library materials. Government records are acquired in all formats from Yukon government agencies and Yukon municipalities.As Government Records Technician, you will support the Government Records Archivists in the acquisition and accessioning of government records.   • Post-secondary diploma in records management, archival/library science, museology, heritage and culture, Northern or First Nation studies or related field of study;
  • Experience in archives, libraries, museums, or other heritage and culture, non-profit or government organizations;
  • Experience working in records management.
Candidates with the training or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.(Before applying, you may want to refer to our sample resume to assist you in submitting your application.)Desired Knowledge, Skills and SuitabilityCandidates should have and may be assessed in the following:
  • Knowledge of effective records management practices and basic archival principles;
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and database programs such as Microsoft Access;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (Archives Act, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Copyright Act);
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, independently and with a diverse group of interests;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong problem-solving, research and analytical skills;
  • Self-motivation and willingness to continual learning;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
  • Ability to deal with frequent interruptions;
  • Knowledge of Yukon history;
  • Excellent client service skills.
Additional InformationJob Requirements:Occasional lifting of boxes up to 25 kg.
