Job Description

Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Health and Safety Manager is a pivotal leader, responsible for driving compliance and fostering a proactive safety culture. This role involves leading the Health and Safety team, collaborating with site leadership, and mentoring stakeholders to ensure adherence to MBC policies, procedures, and OHS legislation. Key duties include ensuring compliance to corporate policies, implementing site safety plans, conducting injury reviews, championing injury reduction initiatives, and managing safety metrics. The position emphasizes leadership, adaptability, and communication while requiring expertise in safety protocols, certifications, and team-building. Success is measured by fostering cultural improvements, achieving operational milestones with embedded safety standards, and promoting aquot;Zero Injury Culture quot; across all levels of the organization.Goals and Objectives

Organizational RelationshipThis position reports directly to Corporate - Director, Environmental, Healthamp; SafetyKey Responsibilities
  • Lead the Health and Safety Team while providing support to site projects to drive compliance and safety excellence.
  • Ensure compliance of Corporate Policies, Procedures, Programs and Audits
  • Collaborate with Site Leadership and EHS team members to execute the Site Safety Plan deliverables and countermeasures.
  • Coach, mentor, and guide stakeholders—including managers, supervisors, engineers, and the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)—to ensure compliance with MBC Policies, Safe Work Procedures (SWP), and OHS legislation.
  • Stay updated on provincial, and company health and safety regulations, ensuring full compliance across all operations.
  • Coordinate and conduct injury review processes to identify root causes and implement effective injury reduction initiatives.
  • Champion aquot;Zero Injury Culture quot; by promoting safety-first initiatives and conducting comprehensive safety training programs.
  • Manage a site wide ergonomics program with onsite therapist provider.
  • Track and report safety performance metrics and lead plant safety committees to foster continuous improvement.
  • Function as the emergency response roll call coordinator, driving business continuity plans and emergency preparedness efforts.
  • Manage on-site security initiatives and ensure all provincial regulatory requirements are met.
  • Oversee the administration and review of Made Safe – Safe Work Certification.
  • Act as a key safety resource for projects, driving best practices.
  • Support the site for all shifts
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned at management’s discretion.
Skills,amp; AttributesTechnical Skills:
  • Safe Work Certified Approved Internal Auditor
  • Advanced knowledge of OHS Management Systems, provincial safety legislation, and risk assessment
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations an asset
  • Familiarity with Lean tools and methodologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have analytical reasoning and problem solving capabilities.
  • Balanced approach to technical, business and people aspects of business.
