Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-pressure steam, hot water, and power distribution systems.
  • Resolve issues with mechanical, electrical, and control systems efficiently.
  • Provide tool and equipment guidance while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with operational, regulatory, and documentation standards.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team in a correctional facility setting.
Requirements
  • Experience
    • Operating high-pressure steam or hot water distribution power plants in manufacturing, industrial, or institutional environments.
    • Maintaining and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, control, and monitoring systems.
    • Operations of:
      • Refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
      • Controls (steam, heat, air handling, computer, pneumatic, etc.).
      • Steam valves, pressure-reducing valves, expansion valves, etc.
      • Water treatment (boiler and potable water).
  • Skillsamp; Abilities
    • Knowledge of computerized building management systems.
    • Ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to instruct on the use of relevant tools.
    • Team player, attentive to detail, dependable and strong initiative.
  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent through a recognized test, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations.
  • Willingness to work within correctional facilities and with or instruct inmates, as applicable.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 23 kilograms.
Required CertificationsTo ensure safety and compliance, candidates must possess the following certifications:
  1. Fall Protection: Course Link - Energy Safety Canada
  2. Third Class Power Engineer Certificate
  3. Valid Drivers License
  4. SMT designation from the Building Owners and Managers Institute.
  5. A valid Certificate in Gas Fitting Class C or better with Electrical Endorsement issued by the Province of employment for the operation of any boilers in the employer’s workplace.
  6. Certificate of Academic Training related to Building Automation Systems or Instrumentation.
