Job Description

Job DescriptionThe welding inspector will be set up as a contractor and be contacted when work is available. The work duration could be a day or several days or several weeks.The inspector will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement with SGS North America Inc.Work will be assigned on as needed basis and will be paid for the hours/days and other applicable cost items for the hours/days spent on the assigned work.The responsibilities for this role are:

  • Ensures the quality and safety of welded structures by verifying that welds meet specific codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Responsibilities include inspecting welds, reviewing welding procedures, and conducting visual and dimensional inspections
  • Examining completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to standards.
  • Checking Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welder qualifications.
  • Using visual aids and tools to identify defects and ensuring welds meet specified dimensions
  • Performing visual inspections and using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods
  • Observing welders and preheating procedures
  • Recording inspection results and any non-conformities
  • Investigating non-conformities i.e. identifying causes and assisting in corrective actions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with welders, engineers, and other personnel.
