Confident and authentic, we strive to be more than consultants—we are reliable partners in our clients #39; success.Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Actuarial Analyst to join our retirement team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting the actuarial and administrative functions related to pension plans, retirement products, and other related services. This position involves performing complex calculations, analyzing data, programming models, and assisting in the preparation of reports that inform strategic decision-making.You will work collaboratively with a team of actuaries, pension consultants, and pension administrators to provide valuable information and insights for our clients.Key ResponsibilitiesPension Administration:

  • Process pension and benefit calculations for events such as retirement, termination of employment, death, relationship breakdown, etc.
  • Program calculation models for processing benefit calculations.
  • Assist in year-end and annual processes.
  • Perform reviews for quality assurance.
  • Interpret and apply the provisions of the pension and benefit plans and various applicable provincial and federal legislation.
Data Analysis:
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data related to retirement plans, including participant demographics, benefit structures, and investment performance.
  • Accurately maintain and update client databases on a regular basis.
Valuation and Projections:
  • Assist in the actuarial valuations of pension plans, severance and sick programs, and health and wellness benefit plans, including calculating present values, funding requirements, and future benefit projections.
  • Assist in actuarial valuations for funding, accounting, conversion, wind-up, and plan design purposes.
  • Assist with extrapolations for pension plans during inter valuation periods.
  • Assist with setting assumptions for valuation purposes.
Report Preparation: Assist with the preparation of detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies, summarizing findings and recommendations.Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and actuarial standards of practice in all actuarial and administrative calculations and reporting.
  • Research and summarize changes to regulations and actuarial standards of practice.
Model Development:
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of actuarial models to improve accuracy and efficiency in valuation processes and practice areas.
  • Model development will be performed in excel, ProVal, and other tools.
  • Quality control of year-end data input and verification of program output
Research and Development: Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and actuarial techniques; support the development of innovative solutions to meet client needs.Collaboration: Work closely with senior actuaries, consultants, and other departments to support client engagements and strategic initiatives.Collaborate on special projects as directed.Pension Administration:
  • Process pension events, including retirement, termination of employment, death, relationship breakdown, etc., with precision and adherence to plan rules and regulations.
  • Accurately maintain and regularly update client databases to reflect current and accurate data.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Calculate and process pension adjustments (PA), pension adjustment reversals (PAR), and past service pension adjustments (PSPA).
  • File the Annual Information Return (AIR) and other required regulatory forms with the appropriate legislative bodies in a timely manner.
  • Interpret and apply the provisions of pension plans and relevant provincial and federal legislation to ensure compliance and provide accurate guidance.
Client Support:Respond to inquiries from clients and plan members regarding data and pension administration, providing clear and accurate information.And any other duties needed to help drive to our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values.Qualifications and AttributesEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.Experienceamp; Education:1-3 years of relevant work experience in the pension field preferredCoursework toward the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.Experience:
  • Previous experience in an actuarial role, particularly in the retirement or pension sector, is advantageous but not required.
  • Internships or coursework related to actuarial science, pension plans, or financial analysis will be considered.
Certifications: Progress toward actuarial certification (Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries) with 2+ exams passed is preferred.Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in excel and other Microsoft software programs.Experience with the actuarial software program ProVal is a plus.
  • Professional and highly organized.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Respects confidential and highly sensitive, critical information.
  • Is effective at working autonomously and can work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
