Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: In this dynamic role, you will take the lead in identifying and assessing Environment Health and Safety (EHS) challenges while driving continuous improvement through the creation and execution of proactive programs. You will coordinate and support a wide array of EHS initiatives, which encompass compliance, investigations, risk assessment, and training and education. As an EHS expert with oversight across all of Carfair #39;s North American Operations, you will provide crucial insights for daily operations and help shape and promote relevant policies and procedures. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Foster a workplace culture that prioritizes environmental responsibility, health, and safety throughout the organization.
  • Encourage and assist leadership in adopting EHS-centric management practices and initiatives.
  • Continuously offer insights on ongoing and upcoming production activities to guarantee compliance with relevant EHS regulations and standards, including those specific to Canada and U.S. OSHA requirements.
  • Oversee compliance programs for air emissions, water discharge, hazardous and industrial waste, chemical storage, and stormwater management; ensure permits and documentation are maintained as needed.
  • Carry out occupational hygiene evaluations and monitor exposures to proactively identify and manage potential risks.
  • Play an active role in investigating EHS-related incidents; supervise root cause analyses and corrective actions, ensuring proper internal and regulatory reporting.
  • Lead and sustain site-specific emergency response initiatives and hazard preparedness guidelines.
  • Keep abreast of legislative changes, codes, and industry standards; guarantee the organization is prepared and operationally aligned.
  • Facilitate and champion EHS education, onboarding, certifications, and awareness training for employees at all levels.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and site inspections, documenting findings and ensuring that identified risks are promptly addressed.
  • Initiate and lead efforts to enhance and advance EHS programs and policies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide evaluation and strategic EHS guidance for new products, capital projects, or changes to facilities; develop related risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare timely reports, recommendations, and statistical analyses regarding incident trends and performance metrics, supporting corporate reduction objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 registration and compliance tasks.
  • Collaborate with NFI Group and affiliated sites to promote uniformity and standardization across EHS programs and systems.
  • Extend support to designated Fabrication and Parts operations throughout the organization.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management or Occupational Healthamp; Safety strongly preferred; certificate may also be considered
  • Current First Aid certification
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian EHS laws and standards (e.g., CSA, ANSI); familiarity with OSHA regulations and U.S. compliance frameworks is a valued asset
  • Experience with occupational hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments
  • Exceptional communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with EHS data tracking tools is an asset
  • Ability to travel to Carfair’s U.S. operations when needed
