Job Description

Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist NFI is a leading global bus manufacturer of mass mobility solutions under the brands New Flyer® (heavy-duty transit buses), MCI® (motor coaches), Alexander Dennis Limited (single and double-deck buses), Plaxton (motor coaches), ARBOC® (low-floor cutaway and medium-duty buses), and NFI Parts™. POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, this position is responsible for identifying and assessing Safety, Health and Environmental (EHS) issues, and continually improving performance through the development and implementation of preventative programs. You will coordinate all EHS compliance activities including investigations, compliance, analysis, education, and training. WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide EHS expertise for daily operations.
  • Manage emergency and hazard response activities.
  • Review and actively support all EHS investigations to ensure appropriate reporting, root cause analysis and corrective actions are taken.
  • Monitor and participate in guidance on current and future production activities ensuring compliance with EHS acts and regulations.
  • Stay current on changes in EHS regulation and legislation to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental permits and licensing requirements.
  • Identify and develop EHS education and required certifications.
  • Develop and deliver EHS initiatives to continuously improve policies and programs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Loss Management policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Monitor and assess occupational exposures from the various processes conducted.
  • Implement and monitor elements of the waste management system, including reporting requirements of air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste disposal, storage tanks, chemical purchase/storage, etc.
  • Provide and maintain accurate statistical data, reports, and analysis of EHS conditions in support of reduction goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all occupational safety and health regulations, life safety codes and CSA standards.
  • Maintain registration requirements of ISO 14001/45001.
  • Support Joint Health and Safety committees, functions, and activities.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Post-secondary education in related disciplines (environmental management, occupational health and safety, etc.). A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 2 years’ experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing environment required.
  • Strong knowledge in EHS legislation and regulations (WHMIS, MSDS, EDS, OSHA, workplace health and safety, fire codes, building codes, ANSI, CSA, etc.).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong ability to build relationships.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Access, SharePoint, etc.
  • Have or ability to obtain a valid First Aid Training Certification.
  • Certification in Laser Safety (hazards, inspection, and controls) considered an asset.
