Proudly serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies in North America, New Flyer actively supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses currently operated by approximately 500 agencies.POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an engineering co-op student to join our Manufacturing Engineering department. This hands-on role offers valuable experience supporting manufacturing engineering activities including facilitating lean manufacturing initiatives, conducting process observations, updating standard work instructions, and maintain facility layouts.RequirementsWHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Work effectively as a cell team member to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is actively pursued.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering support and services to assigned Manufacturing Engineering personnel
  • Maintains current updates on manufacturing engineering related tasks on the manufacturing cell log.
  • Designs or specifies any equipment/tooling/racking required to support manufacturing.
  • Assist with assigned default locators to parts within assigned manufacturing cells
  • Update and maintain facility layouts
  • Implements and facilitates lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.)
  • Participate with continuous improvement and teamwork
  • Conduct process observations as assigned to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings as assigned
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Post-secondary education in a related engineering discipline and or equivalent experience is required for this position.
  • Lean certification or applicable equivalent experience is required for this position.
  • Superior computer and organizational skills.
  • Goal orientated and motivation to achieve tasks within set timelines.
  • Well-versed in AutoCAD.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledgeable in Unigraphics and Oracle would be considered an asset.
