Job Description

Proudly serving all 25 of the largest transit agencies in North America, New Flyer actively supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses currently operated by approximately 500 agencies.POSITION SUMMARY: As a Production Engineering Designer, you will be accountable for the completion of design tasks and bill of material (BOM) releases that support production from concept through implementation. Your technical expertise, attention to detail, and collaborative approach will help ensure that our buses are designed to meet customer expectations while supporting production efficiency and reliability.WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design and release engineering drawings, models, and BOMs in accordance with customer and manufacturing requirements
  • Manage assigned projects and design tasks to meet production schedules and lead times
  • Coordinate directly with vendors, suppliers, and production teams to resolve design-related issues
  • Review technical summaries and specifications to ensure accurate and manufacturable designs
  • Conduct or initiate controlled component and installation testing as needed
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as Quality Assurance, Production, and Customer Service to resolve engineering challenges
  • Ensure compliance with internal design standards and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Maintain documentation through Engineering Notices of Action (ENAs) and other controlled processes
  • Record and track time spent on tasks using established tools and processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production engineering team
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in Engineering or a related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Unigraphics NX preferred)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Capable of working independently while managing multiple design priorities
  • Comfortable collaborating across departments and engaging with vendors and customers
  • Less than 5% travel required
