Job Description

Production ManagerNew Flyer is North America #39;s heavy-duty transit bus leader with various locations in North America.Offering the most advanced product line under the Xcelsior® and Xcelsior CHARGE™ brands. Further information is available at www.newflyer.com.POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for directing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the line assembly departments. This position will ensure both long- and short-term goals are achieved through the implementation and completion of both department and corporate goals. WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Ensures the line assemblies areas follow all safety, health, and environmental requirements.
  • Leads Production Superintendents and Cell Leader teams to achieve safety goals, first time quality and on time delivery of assemblies for internal and external customers.
  • Manages capacity and adjusts facility staffing and equipment levels to achieve desires KPIs.
  • Develops and manages departmental expense budgets for all line assembly departments.
  • Reviews budget result with owners monthly to identify deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Promotes and develops labour relations with the Bargaining Unit representatives to resolve issues at the earliest stages of the Grievance Process.
  • Establishes Superintendents MBO’s annually to ensure goals and targets are measurable.
  • Assists and supports the language for negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure efficient and effective production.
  • Develops and implements plans to meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Schedules and coordinates production activities to ensure maximum efficiency and building in station.
  • Maintains consistent communication with US finishing plant leadership, in-order to meet line entry schedule, delivery schedule, product quality, work-in-progress (WIP), and customer expectation.
  • Ensures policies and processes are established and adhered to to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including all Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety programs.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline in operations management or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years’ previous supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Superior interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to prepare reports and report out.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and work well under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, and knowledge of Oracle would be an asset.
  • Experienced with Lean manufacturing considered an asset.
  • Prior experience working with a unionized workforce considered an asset.
