Job Description

POSITION GOAL: To provide engineering support biased towards electrical components and systems to internal and external customers, some of whom are not technically proficient, and to create, revise and maintain the technical specifications of aftermarket parts for the life of the bus.WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design engineering solutions for vehicle parts, assemblies, and systems.
  • Create specifications and technical drawings.
  • Implement new designs and changes through approved engineering release procedures (ECO).
  • Read, interpret, and create complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Revise PLC (logic) programs to suit customer needs.
  • Manage projects of varying complexity from initial scope to final release.
  • Control Bills of Material (BOMs) to support Manufacturing.
  • Reverse engineer obsolete parts.
  • Maintain the technical specifications of all parts of the vehicle, for the life of the vehicle.
  • Control supersessions and obsolescence through the Change Request (CHR) process.
  • Review and answer technical queries on all vehicle parts, focusing on electrical items.
  • Write, release, and maintain test reports.
  • Follow and adhere to industry standards and best practices.
  • Write, release, and maintain department processes and procedures.
  • Populate and follow department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Support other departments with technical queries and guidance outside of their knowledge. This includes, but is not limited to: a) Support Customer Service with projects, bids, and daily quotes; and Business Development in selecting, validating, and approving alternative products. b) Support Procurement and Planning with supplier selection and stocking levels, and Quality Assurance (QA) with part identification and inspection. Support Manufacturing with on-line queries.
  • Attend technical meetings.
RequirementsWHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Engineering Technologist, EIT, or P. Eng.
  • Experience in the automotive, bus, and trucking industries with a focus on electrical systems.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical service tools (multimeter, 12V/24V power supply, crimping tool, etc.), measuring instruments, general hand tools (such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and vices), and possess a basic understanding of machine tools (including presses, lathes, and milling machines).
  • Competent in computer applications, particularly the MS Office suite, and possess a robust background in CAD.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, with an understanding of the diverse interests across various departments.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems.
