Job Description

Further information is available at www.newflyer.com.POSITION SUMMARY The Intermediate Designer will be accountable for completing engineering design tasks and projects from concept to implementation. This will include all related design activities including calculations, communications, models/drawings, programs, and bill of material updates through Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Complete engineering design tasks and project assignments which support field service/production activities.
  • Create electrical designs that meet customer specifications, technical summaries and other contract documents and ensure designs are within manufacturing abilities.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis to ensure compliance with design criteria and all applicable regulations.
  • Complete controlled testing of PLC programming, components, and installations in order to meet contractual obligations, ensure product reliability and verify component fit.
  • Provide engineering support to Service Engineering Support. As required, provide engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, and other departments.
  • Complete engineering drawings and release documents in accordance with engineering procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with design criteria and all applicable regulations.
  • Interact with vendors and customers on design related issues.
  • Check engineering documents, Instructions to Service, Shop Floor Instructions and other documents as authorized.
**Travel required for this role,lt;5%WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist, or eligible for registration with APEGM/CTTAM.
  • 3-5 years electrical design-based knowledge related to essential functions listed above.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, J1939 CAN networking and CAD/Unigraphics including creation and interpretation of schematic drawings.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Motivated self-starter with high level of initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Diagnostic/troubleshooting, manufacturing or service experience are assets.
  • Additional programming experience/familiarity is an asset.
