Job Description

Further information is available at www.newflyer.com.POSITION SUMMARYAs a key member of our Production Improvement Engineering department, you will be part of the team responsible for the research and development of solutions that address service and production concerns, and incorporate new technologies with intent to create best value subsystems for the Coach or Bus. This will include mitigating or eliminating failure modes and improving performance, reliability, manufacturability, and integration, with focus on adding customer value and reduced warranty exposure.WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Manage assigned projects and participate in required design reviews and applicable Failure Mode and Effect Analysis and Hazard Analysis exercises.
  • Execute and complete Engineering design tasks and project assignments in support of prototyping/testingamp; product development activities, with special focus on creating Best Value subsystems for the Coach or Bus.
  • Coach and mentor other members of the Product Improvement Engineering team and other cross function departments.
  • Coordinate own tasks to ensure deadlines are met per projects schedule and applicable lead times, including maintaining and communicating task status, progress and risks to task scope change.
  • Create Engineering designs that meet specifications, applicable standards and industry best practices, and ensure designs meet performance, buildability, design efficiency and align with outlined design philosophy.
  • Perform Engineering calculations and analysis to ensure compliance with design criteria and all applicable standards and regulations.
  • Complete controlled testing of components and systems to verify component fit and function to meet contractual obligations, vendor requirements, and ensure product reliability and performance.
  • Provide engineering support to other Engineering teams, Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and other departments as directed.
  • Interact with vendors and customers on design related issues and provide where required, Supplier Application Approval requests for new component system installations or applications.
  • Identify, research, and prepare technical documentation for the Engineering Department.
  • Verify Engineering Documents, Instructions to Service, Shop Floor Instructions, and other documents as needed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Proficient in designs involving multiplexing systems for heavy-duty vehicles, CAN bus networks, and sensor interfacing.
  • Extensive experience in electrical integration of automotive systems for heavy-duty buses and coaches, including communication between various vehicle subsystems, and compliance with automotive standards such as SAE J1939, ISO 11898 and ISO 26262.
  • Experience managing design projects.
  • Experience using NX, Ladder Logic and Vector CANalyzer.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
