  • Works within the framework of the Golden Links Lodge’s Mission, Vision and Values, and in accordance with its policies and procedures.
  • Respects Residents Rights at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS1.Education and Experience
  • Successful completion of Grade 12 education according to Manitoba Provincial Standards, or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years Housekeeping and Laundry experience a Long Term Care setting (or commercial cleaning experience with similar responsibilities) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS guidelines and interpretation of MSDS sheets required.Adheres to safety principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe operation and handling of cleaning equipment required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, with ability to adapt to changing needs and requirements required.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to healthcare Housekeeping and Laundry required.
  • Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Office required.

  • Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the requirements of the position, including the ability to climb ladders and work from same.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:The responsibilities and duties of the Lead Hand include, but are not limited to:1. Lead Hand Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining sufficient quantities of supplies for Housekeeping and Laundry in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Participates in the development and revision of Golden Links Lodge Policy and Procedures related to the Housekeeping and Laundry departments, including those related to the WHMIS program.
  • Under the direction of the Manager of Support Services, ensures that all MSDS sheets are current and that WHMIS symbols are placed on potentially dangerous substances throughout Golden Links Lodge.
  • Replaces relief staff in the event of illness or absence of an employee as needed. Ensures time sheet information is submitted in an accurate and timely manner to meet established payroll deadlines.

  • Coordinates work flow, providing direction to Housekeeping and Laundry staff.Has input on performance conversations for Housekeeping and Laundry staff, recommending training and remedial action as necessary.
  • Maintains competency level by attending staff meetings, in-service programs or seminars as required.
  • Participates in the Golden Links Lodge Quality and Risk Management Program, including the completion of audits and participates on various related committees.
  • Ensures cleaning deficiencies are identified and corrected.
  • Prepares and provides reports or statistical information as required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding the safe use of and maintenance of cleaning carts, vacuums, floor polishers, carpet cleaner, auto scrubber, mop systems, window washing wands, washers, dryers, heat sealer (clothing labeling) and other related equipment for both housekeeping and laundry purposes. Orientates staff to use of all departmental equipment, and monitors safe use of same.
  • Completes Work Request Forms for maintenance to assess and repair departmental equipment as required.
  • Participates in orientation and training of Housekeeping and Laundry staff.Demonstrates correct procedures to staff as required.
  • Participates in Golden Links Lodge Emergency Response Plans.
  • Ensures the Evacuation Kits for each floor is current and complete.
2. Delivery of Housekeeping Services
  • Performs daily cleaning duties in facility according to established routines and procedures.
  • Performs thorough cleaning of rooms prior to new admissions and/or transfers.
  • Performs specialized cleaning duties/projects as necessary according to established routines and procedures i.e. general carpet cleaning, upholstery shampooing, floor scrubbing, etc.
  • Maintains cleaning cart and related equipment in a safe, organized manner according to established routines and procedures.
  • Replenishes hand soap and paper supplies on a daily basis.
  • Movement of furniture and other articles to facilitate cleaning routines.
  • Bed making and tidying Resident rooms on a daily basis.
  • Collect and bag linen for dispersal to the appropriate areas.
3. Resident Care Services
  • Orders, stocks and delivers incontinence supplies as needed to units.
  • May be required to provide the following assistance to Residents:
  • Responds to call lights; obtains assistance for Residents as required.
  • Assists Residents with activities of daily living that may include:
    • Serving and clean-up of meals and nourishments
    • Transporting Residents
    • Intervenes as required to ensure safety of Residents.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
  • Required to work with a minimum of supervision after initial direction.
  • Receives direction verbally and/ or in writing (memos, emails, etc.) and through established work routines and schedules, policies, and procedures.
OTHER
  • Provides regular communication with the Manager of Support Services and co-workers as it relates to daily departmental activities, projects and long-term goals of the Department.
  • Demonstrates respect for Residents, their family members/ visitors and belongings required at all times.
  • Works as part of the Golden Links Lodge interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
