The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the cluster hiring of 9 Indigenous open-rank, tenure-track academic appointments representing various disciplines and career stages who will contribute to Indigenous excellence across the University of Winnipeg Faculties and to the University of Winnipeg’s commitment to fostering a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion through increasing the representation of Indigenous academics. UWinnipeg seeks Indigenous candidates whose scholarship advances learning and knowledge through teaching, research and service, particularly in the following areas:Indigenous Studies Indigenous Languagesamp; Revitalization Indigenous Governance and Development Practice Criminal Justice and Indigenous Law Indigenous Rights Environmental Studies and Sciences Indigenous Sciences Indigenous Health and Physical EducationThe Department of Indigenous Studies at The University of Winnipeg is seeking to hire three full time Indigenous open rank (Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professoramp; Professor) tenure-track positions. The Indigenous Studies department offers undergraduate degrees, along with a Master of Arts in Indigenous Governance (https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/maig/). It serves approximately 1100 enrolled students annually and offers approximately 50 undergraduate courses; several are cross listed with other departments within the University. We offer both classroom-based and land-based courses on topics that includeIndigenous governance and politics, Indigenous sovereignty and rights, Economic development, Biocultural diversity, Ecology, Indigenous knowledge systems, Food studies, Health and healing, Indigenous spirituality, and Ojibwe and Cree languages.Serving Indigenous communities is at the heart of our mission. The department is a vitally important part of the University’s downtown Winnipeg Campus and its Indigenization efforts and provides substantial curriculum for the Indigenous Course Requirement. Expertise in more than one area and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly welcome. While candidates with a PhD are preferred, ABD candidates, candidates with professional degrees, and candidates with lived experience are also encouraged to apply. One of the three advertised positions is intended for a First Nation Traditional Knowledge Carrier/Traditional Teacher/Traditional Spiritual Leader from a Manitoba First Nation or the surrounding area. For this position, members from a First Nation outside of Manitoba are also encouraged to apply. All areas of specialization will be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in teaching and research related to the history, culture, environment, language, and governance of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or any Indigenous Nation from Turtle Island.
