Job DescriptionAECOM is currently seeking an Urban Planner to join our growing Buildings and Places team. This position could be based out of our Winnipeg, MB or Missisauga, ON office. As the successful candidate will be working on projects across Canada, this is a hybrid work arrangement.Imagine working on rewarding projects alongside passionate colleagues, and helping communities envision their futures. The Buildings and Places (B+P) team is a vibrant and growing business line. We deliver planning and landscape architectural, architectural, engineering, urban designand project management services across the globe to communities large and small. With us, you will work on projects across a range of sectors, including Health, Social Infrastructure, Transit, Environment, Commercial, Institutional, Justice, and Education.You are a self starter and work under minimal supervision to perform advanced duties based on a good understanding of the urban and regional planning framework in Ontario and/or Manitoba. You have experience or passion in planning with Indigenous communities. You will your leverage experience contributing to or leading planning and urban design projects (e.g., public realm design, secondary plans, master planning, First Nation community plans). Familiarity with the site planning and development permit application process is required. As a clear oral and written communicator, you will provide expertise to clients as well as the AECOM team, and be poised to help grow our planning presence throughout Canada.Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate planning and urban design projects for municipalities, Indigenous Communities and private sector clients;
  • Collaborate with AECOM specialists (designers, architects, engineers) to develop high-quality site-specific and regional concept plans;
  • Analyze, summarize and provide qualified planning advice for urban and regional planning projects, based on review of applicable policy and legislation;
  • Prepare and / or coordinate planning projects, including level of service studies, feasibility studies, and need assessments, and coordinate a transdisciplinary team to develop site concepts.
  • Present plans, reports and other findings to communities, public and private clients, advisory boards, representatives of public agencies and elected officials;
  • Coordinate projects, develop and administer work plans and schedules to advance projects, and coordinate the work of colleagues, project team members and sub-consultants;
  • Design and coordinate Stakeholder, Public and Indigenous Engagement Programs, prepare and deliver presentations, reports and other project related deliverables;
  • Peer mentor colleagues, contribute actively to team development, and act as a point of reference on technical planning matters;
  • Support client business development, identify opportunities, promote urban and community planning services, develop relationships, and generate business through client development and preparation of proposals.
