Job Description

Title: Quality Assurance Technician (Receiving)Reports to: Quality Assurance ManagerOverall Responsibilities: The key role of the Quality Assurance Technician (Receiving) is to ensure Capsule Factory raw materials, bulk materials, returned products and packaging components comply with internal specifications. This position ensures SOP’s for food safety, quality, and warehouse are followed. The main responsibilities are inspection, sample retrieving and approval of raw materials, bulk materials, packaging components and finished goods. Other duties include scale verification, maintenance of retainer samples, maintenance of cleaning forms, documenting vendor complaints, collection of samples for lab testing, and assistance to other Quality Assurance positions.* Some HEAVY lifting up to 25kg may be required .Qualifications/ Behavioral Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or college diploma in chemistry, biology or related scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Quality Control Certificate, HACCP or Food Safety Certificate, or industry experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP.
  • Good understanding of data analysis and report preparation with solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Critical Thinker – must be able to tactfully challenge the current procedures for improvement.
  • Effective Communicator – effective listener, encourage open communication and sharing of ideas amongst team members.
  • Organization – must be able to organize and manage the implementation of multiple worklists
  • Ability to handle strict deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Effective analytical problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and excellent written and oral communication skills. Meticulous eye for detail and accuracy

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Approval of raw materials, bulks materials, returned products and packaging components according to internal procedures and specification at the receiving stage. Perform checks/tests.
  • Perform standard procedures for returned products per SOP for Handling of Returned Products
  • Sampling of materials: retainer samples and sample preparation for testing.
  • Review of Certificates of Analysis and Conformance, material labels and condition of materials received. Review of warehouse receiving documentation.
  • Request missing documentation to the purchasing department.
  • Ensure proper allergen/WADA identification of raw materials and bulk materials.
  • Ensure proper identification of Organic, Kosher, Halal of raw materials and bulk materials.
  • Responsible for Pest Control Internal Inspection.
  • Responsible for placing items on hold, issue vendor complaint forms and follow up.
  • Adhere to Good Documentation Practices and record keeping.
  • Conduct ATP swabs, allergen swabs and water swabs.
  • Maintain work area cleaned and organized.
  • Work closely with warehouse staff in the areas of sanitation, storage, identification of materials to ensure adherence to quality programs.
  • Attend department meeting as well as production meetings when applicable.
  • Follow all internal SOPs, proper attire and required PPEs.
  • Attest to all his/her decisions by signing and dating all reports.
  • Attend training seminars and video training when required.
  • Promptly communicate any issues that may affect the product safety and quality
Other duties:
  • Back up: In-process QA technician (and other tasks in the Quality Department based on training)
  • Assist with duties of other QA when required: including record keeping, internal auditing, SOP writing, non-conformance investigations, training etc.
  • Other duties as per operational requirements.
