In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for overseeing our day-to-day fiscal operations, managing all accounts and financial systems, and ensuring accurate and current financial records. ROM Governors is committed to being the country’s top cultural foundation because of its success in building highly engaged, impactful donor and other community relationships.POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Operations, the Controller at ROM Governors is a key architect of our financial strategy and operations. This role is essential in overseeing and refining our day-to-day fiscal operations, encompassing the management of all accounts, financial systems, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial records. Integral to this position is the responsibility for fund management, investment accounting, and the production of comprehensive financial reports.The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional in financial management, with a proven track record in effectively overseeing financial operations within a dynamic organization. They should possess a deep understanding of financial principles and practices, including fund accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting, in addition to proficiency in relevant software and systems. As the Controller, you will be a senior figure within our operations, playing a crucial role in shaping the financial health and contributing to the strategic goals of ROM Governors. Your expertise will not only be fundamental in financial management but also in enhancing the financial literacy and capability of program leaders and their teams, thereby ensuring a cohesive and informed approach to our foundation #39;s operations and initiatives.RESPONSIBILITIES:Financial Management and Administration

  • Oversee and maintain the completeness and accuracy of the General Ledger (G/L).
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including the preparation of quarterly financial statements and account reconciliations. This also involves analyzing and explaining variances between actual and budgeted performance.
  • Manage the tracking and approval of all expenses and grants.
  • Reconcile the financial database with the donor database on a monthly basis.
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Vice President to develop and update Foundation policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate all audit activities, including corporate and CRA tax filings.
  • Collaborate with the EVP of Operations to develop quarterly reporting for Board Committees.
Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Support the development of annual business planning.
  • Assist in the development and reporting of program budgets.
  • Contribute to grant budgeting and reporting.
Investment Portfolio
  • Track and report on portfolio activity on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Execute purchase and sale transactions as required.
  • Prepare detailed portfolio reports for quarterly Investment Committee meetings.
Granting
  • Prepare an annual grant budget by fund.
  • Conduct monthly tracking of processes against the budget.
  • Proactively monitor and manage funds as activities are planned and executed.
Cash Flow
  • Prepare and monitor the cash flow schedule, both quarterly and annually.
  • Establish and maintain finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Reconcile short-term cash investments by project.
QUALIFICATIONSamp; COMPETENCIES:
  • Professional and Educational Credentials: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience Profile: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in fund accounting, preferably in a non-profit or similar complex environment, focusing on financial management, investment accounting, and budgeting.
  • Financial and Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), coupled with proficiency in financial software, databases, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Familiarity with integrated financial systems is a plus.
  • Regulatory and Adaptability Expertise: Knowledge of audit processes and tax filings, including CRA regulations, and an ability to adapt to changing financial landscapes.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills for detailed financial analysis, alongside excellent verbal and written communication abilities for effectively articulating financial information to a diverse audience.
  • Organizational Prowess and Problem-Solving: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously. Aptitude for critical thinking and problem-solving in complex scenarios.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership qualities with a track record of effective team collaboration and the ability to guide teams in financial and accounting procedures.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Status: Full-Time Permanent

  • Schedule: 35 Hours per week
  • Probationary Period: Six (6) Months
  • Location: Toronto, ON

  • Salary: CAD 120,000 to CAD 150,000
  • Work Model: In-Person with flexible work arrangements (minimum 3 days in office)
