Journeyperson Carpenter Trades Instructor - TRA001145Employment Type: Permanent Full-timeLocation(s): SK-Central East-YorktonMinistry: 073 Corrections Policing and Public SafetySalary Range: $27.567 - $34.548 HourlyGrade: SGEU.08.The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety requires a Journeyperson Carpenter Trades Instructor to train and supervise offenders enrolled in a construction skills program at the Whitespruce Provincial Training Centre located near Yorkton.Under the general supervision of the Director of Whitespruce Provincial Training Centre, you will:Instruct offenders in construction basics;Supervise and teach program participants in real world construction projects;Develop opportunities for the class to experience and participate in real world construction builds;Work closely with 6-12 adult offenders who may have special needs, gender differences, and various cultural and spiritual belief systems and be required to establish, build and maintain work relationships with effective interpersonal communication (both written and verbal); andAppropriately apply policy, procedures and legislation and be responsible for the care, custody and control of 6-12 adult inmates in different correctional, vocational, and community settings.The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has partnered with the local Yorkton Habitat for Humanity chapter to support Habitat in combatting poverty in the Yorkton area through the building of sustainable housing. This program supports a world class charity but more importantly provides offenders real world vocational training thereby increasing their chances of finding meaningful employment upon release.To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements and have the following competencies:Possess a valid Journeyperson Carpentry certificate;Have a current valid driver’s licence, a reliable vehicle, and valid First Aid CPR/AED, WHIMIS and Fall Protection certificates;Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, applicable construction standards and regulations;The ability, and preferably the experience, in running a construction crew. Preference will be given to candidates that have previous instructional experience;The ability to develop partnerships and opportunities to provide additional experiential learning opportunities for the offenders outside of the Habitat partnership; andThe ability and preferably the experience to estimate, quote and manage multiple construction sites and jobs.The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to:Work independently and co-operatively with others in a team environment to establish, build and maintain positive working relationships to ensure goals and objectives are met; andIndependently organize and prioritize multiple tasks taking into consideration changing priorities and deadlines.We are committed to workplace diversity.Hours of Work: B - SGEU Field 37.33 - one day off every three weeksNumber of Openings: 1Closing Date: Jul 9, 2021, 12:59:00 AM
