Job Description

To support operational growth, Forbes Bros is recruiting for Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanics/Technicians to join our team. Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Heavy Duty/Off-Road Mechanic maintains, repairs and overhauls heavy vehicles and industrial equipment at site locations to support various construction projects across Canada.Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of all systems associated with work equipment (mechanical, electrical and hydraulic)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical/electrical problems and conduct work without compromising the integrity of any equipment and meeting the demands of the projects
  • Work from service manuals and schematic drawings
  • Conduct inspections and tests, repair or replace parts with limited resources in remote locations outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Evaluate parts for reuse, repair or replacement
  • Use various hand and power hand tools
  • Operates equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments
  • Diagnose equipment problems and take corrective action in order to minimize the impact on operations and maintain safe operations.
  • Utilize and adhere to shop maintenance procedures and information systems
  • Ensures cleanliness and organization of the shop, maintenance of shop tools and equipment, loading/unloading and storage of equipment, including service truck
  • Working on heavy duty and on road equipment such as excavators, wheel Loaders, backhoes, digger derrick trucks, aerial bucket trucks, trailers, and dump trucks
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company Safety Standards
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
Essential Requirements:
  • Self-directed, outgoing personality and a team player
  • Well, organized with attention to detail
  • Service orientated with strong communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with others in a diverse environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage timelines effectively
Education and Experience:
  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Certification or Inter-Provincial Truck and Transport Mechanic certification is required
  • Class 1 or 3 Drivers license is required
  • CVIP Inspectors license is considered an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • A minimum of 3-5 years mechanic experience is preferable on a mobile service truck
  • Mechanical experience working on on-road and off-road equipment is an asset.
Additional Details:This position is field-based requiring candidates to:
  • Have and maintain a valid drivers license and acceptable drivers abstract
  • Operate a mobile service truck requiring regular field presence at project locations throughout an assigned region
  • Successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
  • Travel and work overtime as required
