Job Description

This position supports the safety, health, and environmental programs of a canola crush processing plant. The primary function is to ensure that all facets of the operation adhere to all components of the plant’s LDC SH&E Program and are being conducted in compliance with all applicable local, provincial, and federal environmental and safety rules, laws and regulations. This position promotes SH&E leadership, keeps all levels of plant management actively involved in the SH&E Program and ensures operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally protective manner. This position works with minimal direct supervision, must be self-motivated and detail oriented.Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the LDC SH&E Program and written safety, health & environmental programs. Ensure continual compliance with those programs.
  • Develop and provide training to plant employees on safety, health & environmental topics and procedures.
  • Analysis Incidents/Accidents events to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct audits of the facility to ensure operations meet safety, health & environmental requirements.
  • Ensure that site environmental permits are current and accurate, and all requirements are met on a continual basis.
  • Prepare and submit safety and environmental regulatory reports as required. Ensure accuracy of records kept and reports prior to submission.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Understand, apply and maintain compliance with all applicable local, provincial and federal environmental and safety regulations and monitor for new and revised regulations applicable to the plant.
  • Monitor, measure and report safety, health & environmental performance. Develop trend analyses and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of site security, DOT, drug and alcohol, and worker health programs and requirements.
  • Develop annual pollution prevention and sustainability goals and targets for the plant and plans to achieve those goals.
SHE ProgramIs an active member of the facility SHE Program. Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules, and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to. Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work. Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner. Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.Company Conformance StatementsIn the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

Required SkillsThe following are the basic qualifications:
  • Strong working knowledge of the regulatory requirements applicable to the facility (e.g., CCOHS, MOE).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software (e.g., Excel and MS Word).
  • Ability to work in a setting that may contain adverse weather conditions and environmental conditions typical of an agricultural commodity and chemical processing plant.
Ability to climb stairs, use ladders, work at heights, enter confined spaces, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, crawling, and bending. Ability to lift 50 pounds.Required ExperienceA combination of 3-5 years in the construction field of direct experience in safety; occupational health and environmental compliance.Experience working in the biofuels or chemical processing industry is preferred.Quick Apply
