Supervisor - Income Assistance - HUM012184Employment Type: Permanent Full-timeLocation(s): SK-Central East-YorktonMinistry: 036 Social ServicesSalary Range: $34.028-$42.641 HourlyGrade: SGEU.10.About Us:The Ministry of Social Services, Income Assistance Service Delivery Branch, is committed to investing in positive outcomes for clients in the areas of income support and supports so clients can regain their financial independence to the best of their ability. We do this by providing financial supports and connecting clients to support services in their community. We meet clients’ basic needs for food, shelter, and clothing and develop collaborative, customized plans with the client to help them build better lives for themselves.About the role:The Ministry of Social Services’ Service Delivery Branch requires a highly skilled permanent full-time Supervisor located in the Yorkton Service Delivery office. The successful candidate will provide supervision, guidance and coaching to Income Assistance Service Delivery staff to ensure effective, compassionate, and non-judgmental client service to individuals with varying needs, issues, and concerns.You will be a positive role model to staff that provide in person service to Income Assistance clients and be aware of systemic barriers such as impacts of poverty and socio-economic issues. Experience with Human Resource practices, such as recruiting and sustaining employees and dealing with stress in the workplace, is also required. You are required to have a minimum of one year experience in employee supervision.You will have knowledge of relevant community services and principles of Social Work. The ability to problem solve, organize and prioritize work in order to manage fluctuating work volumes/workflow is necessary. It is required the successful candidate has experience in dealing in person with clients who display a broad range of emotions and behaviors.You will be responsible to lead a team that works closely with diverse clientele to help them maximize their independence, autonomy, and quality of life. You will provide leadership, orientation and training to unit staff who are assessing clients through a strength-based and solution-focused case management model while utilizing motivational interviewing to assist client’s in making changes. You will guide your unit who are developing, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting case plans in collaboration with the client to establish goals, and meet diverse needs.Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, or related human services course of study.You will have demonstrated the ability to:

  • plan, organize, prioritize, assign a high-volume diverse workload, taking into consideration conflicting priorities, frequent interruptions, and the needs of the team;
  • supervise, lead, guide, and coach employees in their daily delivery of programs and services for a minimum of one year;
  • exercise judgement where appropriate and ensure compliance with legislative and case practice requirements when applying and interpreting policy in making decisions and providing direction;
  • apply a strength based and solution focused case management model while utilizing motivational interviewing when assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating; and adjusting case plans in collaboration with the client and others to establish goals and meet diverse client and family needs;
  • anticipate, assess, and intervene in problems that may negatively affect the work team and office culture.
  • deal with clients who display a wide range of emotions and behaviors in the service delivery office;
  • develop and maintain open and honest work relationships with a challenging and diverse range of individuals, interest groups, and related service producers;
  • accurately and in a timely manner access, retrieve, input, and process information using various computer applications; and
  • clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing, to various audiences both internally and externally.
You will have knowledge of:
  • The Saskatchewan Assistance Act, and other related Income Assistance acts, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • poverty and socio-economic issues and how these influencing factors impact people;
  • multicultural beliefs, values, and perspectives, with particular emphasis on First Nations and Metis;
  • systemic barriers that affect clients and communities (addictions, health related issues, etc);
  • human resource management practices, including strategies to recruit, support and sustain a diverse workforce.
