The Board’s mandate is to conduct review panel hearings for patients admitted by physicians and detained involuntarily in provincial mental health facilities in a manner that is consistent with the principles of fundamental justice and section 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.The Navigator is a newly established position supporting the Mental Health Review Board’s new hearing process for children and youth. The Navigator will provide a relationship-based and support-based approach to assisting child and youth in the new hearing process. This approach will require building trust and respect in order to fully assess the applicants’ needs and interests. The Navigator will be a key resource for implementing and communicating the new hearing process as well as monitoring its success, implementing improvements, and coordinating specific training for Board members and staff.The role of the Navigator requires working with children and youth who are involuntarily detained in a mental health facility or hospital.
