Term Contract OpportunityLocation: Abbotsford Parks, Recreation, and Culture FacilitiesPosition Title: Community Recreation – Leaders and instructors (Sport programs, arts and crafts programs, birthday parties, child minding and drop-in activities)Number of Positions : As neededHours of Work : Various hours per week dependent on programsStart & End Date: On goingRate of Pay : $17.20 - $21.40 hourly + 4% in lieu of benefitsUnder the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Community Recreation Leaders are responsible for planning and facilitating a variety of social, cultural, sport and general interest activities for early years, child and youth and adult programs.Duties:Plan and lead weekly pre-registered programs (sports, arts & crafts, dance, cooking, early years, parent participation, children, youth and adult)Supervise, facilitate and lead drop-in sessionsChildmindingSupervise Birthday partiesLead games, sports, and craft making activities with childrenSet-up and take down of programsReport safety hazards and respond to first aid incidentsQualifications:Knowledge and experience playing/instructing a variety of sports.Knowledge and experience instructing a variety of recreation programs and activities.Knowledge and experience leading/supervising children (new born - 12 years old) while providing a safe and fun environment for program participants.Knowledge and experience leading games and craft making activities with children.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting.Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.Leadership skills including ability to model appropriate behaviors and demonstrate sound judgment while creating a positive, enthusiastic & fun environment.Current Emergency First Aid or Standard First aid with CPR ‘C’ & AED certification.The applicant/incumbent will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check in order to work in this position and to report to their Manager if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.Posting Closing Date: June 7, 2022The City of Abbotsford values workplace safety and protecting our employees, partners and stakeholders, from the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
