Job Description

Position Summary:Responsible for serving as a business partner to supervisors, department managers and the General Manager for the flight kitchen.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide information, advice, and guidance to managers and employees on routine HR-related issues (e.g., recruitment, compensation, benefits, leave, performance review, and HR policy and procedures); refer more complex HR issues to the Senior HR Manager
  • Open, track, log (update), and close grievance case files (including HRTO complaints)
  • Partners with various levels of management to understand business objectives and identify corresponding human resource needs; implements strategies to support various business objectives and improve programs to support employee retention
  • Helps drive division-wide human resources strategy, programs, and processes into the unit ensuring compliance with employment laws
  • Partners with operations to identify training needs and provide input on training approaches and content
  • Partners with operations to identify and understand workforce needs; responsible for recruiting union hourly employees and for assisting with recruitment for salaried positions
  • Coordinates the employee file system to provide appropriate access and controls and maintain files and records in accordance with legal requirements, and company policies and procedures
  • Submits job requisitions through the HRIS, receives resumes, screening, phone interviews, and coordinates with department managers the second round of interviews
  • Serves as the initial employee and labor relations point of contact to mediate and resolve employee disputes and union grievances
  • Assists with conducting investigations, provides recommendations to department managers and draft discipline letters
  • Responsible for onboarding of new employees, delivering orientation and other training programs as needed
  • Receives employment-related claims from various government or public agencies and consults with Senior HR Manager if need be.
  • Maintains union seniority list
Education:
  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Post secondary education or equivalent education with relevant HR work and payroll experience
Qualification
  • Degree in Human Resources, or related equivalent
  • Experience working in transportation, hospitality, manufacturing, or food service environment highly desirable
  • CHRP designation an asset
  • 3 years of relevant and demonstrable experience in the field and direct payroll experience
  • Experience performing a wide array of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, labour relations, benefits administration, training and development, compliance with HR policies, and processing payroll and assisting with answering payroll questions
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Understanding of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement)
  • Computer literate with strong spreadsheet analysis skills
  • Familiarity with Workday and Kronos
  • Able to write complex and confidential correspondence
Job Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial and federal employment law
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Understanding of collective bargaining agreements
  • Strong and effective leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to working independently
  • Effective relationship building and business partnering
