Job Description

Vertex is currently accepting applications for one full-time, permanent Operations Manager for Alida, SK location. The successful candidate must have experience managing Trucking and Fluid Hauling Services and demonstrate excellent human resource, financial skills and abilities. Candidates must have strong proven leadership skills, be detailed oriented, have excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a fast-paced team environment.CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum five (5) or more years management experience in Trucking, Fluid Hauling and/or Oil & Gas Services industry with proven leadership abilities
  • Previous P&L responsibility $20M
  • Experience with having 3-5 direct reports
  • Effective management skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes
  • Proven knowledge and operational skills in the Trucking Industry more specifically on fluid management
  • Able to identify key issues; creatively and strategically overcome internal challenges or obstacles.
  • Holds a clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures and other operational issues faced by the organization
  • Strong financial acumen to understand and interpret financial statements
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Maintains a high level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Maintains a well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and develop the day to day operations in Alida, including but not limited to work or project executions, general inquires, budgeting, personnel management/supervision and issues related to all service offering
  • Ensure customer and client satisfaction with quality service
  • Conduct business development activities through building strong relationship with existing clients (client retention and growth) along with new client sourcing
  • Improve and sustain growth in the branch through operational efficiencies, cost reductions, new services and upgrades of equipment, personnel and service offering
  • Prepare bids, proposal responses, work estimates and attend to on-site client meetings
  • Provide supervision, direct management and leadership to operators / drivers and labors
  • Manage equipment utilizations and improve standard operating procedures
  • Stewardship of company assets (trucks, equipment, and any additional assets); collaborating with the Asset Manager as required to ensure appropriate management of company assets, ensure all company assets are in good working condition, ensure required maintenance and repair work is completed in a timely manner
  • Provide planning and forecasting to allow for the adequate approvals for the department
  • Ensure that safety is made a priority and that employees and managers are abiding by all Occupational and Health and Safety regulations
  • Oversight and collaboration with all equipment maintenance and shop functions
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Compliance Coordinator to guarantee compliance with Federal and Provincial transportation legislation and driver requirements
  • Oversee hiring and training of personnel. Coordinate with Human Resources on recruitment initiatives and growth of professional staff
  • Ensure that new employees are trained and oriented as appropriate for their new positions; performing follow-up sessions to ensure their proper fit within the company
  • Understand and demonstrate the expectation set out within the Vertex Policy Manual and expectations of the company and clients
  • Understand and demonstrate Vertex’s mission, vision and values; constantly strive to support Vertex’s achievement of corporate goals and objectives
  • Take the initiative to stay abreast of company developments and group communications; read and understand all internal communications
  • Willingly travel to and from Vertex properties, worksites or other business-related locations as directed by Vice President of Logistics
  • Provide support and expert opinion to subordinates and to management as needed
  • Other duties as directed by Vice President of Logistics

  • This position will be located out of our Alida, SK office.
