Terms of Employment: Casual position(s)Shifts: Shift Work - 8 and/or 12 hour shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends)Location: Amherst, NSNature of Position: Youth Care Workers are responsible for administering approved treatment plans and providing care to residents (ages 9 and older) in care of the Minister of Community Services. Responsible for accurate reporting, file maintenance, crisis intervention and assisting with developing programs and activities. The facility is a 24/7 awake operation.Required Education: Bachelors Degree in the Human Services Field ~or~ Child Care Worker Diploma from a provincial accredited institution.Required Knowledge and Skills: The successful candidate will have comprehensive experience working with at risk children and youth in residential care, ability to work as part of a team member, deal with conflict, have strong written/verbal and interpersonal communication skills, effective organizational and time management skills, knowledge of behavior management strategies and intervention plans and programs, knowledge of issues facing youth in care and the ability to transfer knowledge of various behavioral disorders, substance abuse and mental health disorders to practice. Must exercise discretion with confidential matters.Assets: Certificates in the following programs are considered an asset- Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (NVPCI), Standard First Aid Level C, Cultural Awareness Training, Medication Awareness Training, Medication Administration, Fire Safety Training, WHIMIS, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), Inhalant Abuse, Stress Management, Restorative Practices, Food Handlers Safety Training.Additional Skills: Housekeeping activities, food preparation, supervise indoor and outdoor activities of children and youth, supervise children;s visits with parents to ensure their safety.Security and Safety Requirements: Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, Valid Drivers License, appropriate Liability Insurance.Transportation Information: Must have access to a reliable and appropriate vehicle to transport residents.Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast paced environment, work under pressure, physically demanding.How to Apply:Fax: (902) 667-3241Email: mullins.house@ns.sympatico.caQuick Apply
