Job Description

Tony’s Meats Ltd. Is a federally inspected, SQF level 2 certified, meat processing facility located in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The company is seeking a person with building construction and renovation experience to lead a plant renovation project.Term: September 13, 2021 – March 31, 2022Location: Antigonish, Nova ScotiaHours: Monday to Friday (8:00 am -4:30 pm) may periodically change according to project needsReports to: Maintenance PersonagerDuties/Tasks: Under the direction of the Maintenance Personager, the Renovation Project Team Lead shall execute tasks related to renovating an existing 1800 sq ft space using materials that are approved for use in a food production facility and ensure that all activities are conducted in a manner that ensures food safety and certification body requirements are met.This includes but is not limited to:

  • Leading team consisting of 2 other labourers to complete renovation tasks according to the preset schedule
  • Removing existing ceiling and block wall (non load bearing) structures
  • Busting up and removing existing concrete floor
  • Removing existing plumbing
  • Digging trenches and preparing trench beds for new plumbing.
  • Assisting with laying and connection of new plumbing.
  • Lay and connect in floor heating
  • All aspects of concrete slab pour including framing, wheel barrow moving the concrete in place, finishing and form removal
  • Measure, cut and install insulated sandwich panels for new refrigerated storage area
  • Hang and install doors, evaporator coils
  • Pulling electrical wire
  • Hanging electrical control boxes
  • Sealing/caulking
  • Constructing and installing forms for wall curbs to be poured
  • Basic electrical – run conduit, install light fixtures, plugs and switches
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in general building construction and repair
  • Experience and comfort leading, training and supervising small teams
  • Physically fit and able to lift at least 100lbs
  • Able to work with arms above shoulder height
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and experience with both PVC and copper piping including ability to solder
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
  • Attention to detail, meticulous (measure twice, cut once)
  • Willingness to carry out any task assigned including concrete work, electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, sheetmetal, pipe fitting etc.
  • Must be comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding (Current fall arrest certificate an asset)
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces
  • Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in English
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently
  • Willing and able to take direction
  • Willing to work in a food production environment (cold, wet) and meet all food safety program requirements including dress code requirements (smocks, beardnets), food and drink policies, handwashing etc.
  • Provide own steel toed rubber and leather work boots
