The internal medicine group currently includes a cardiologist, and three general internists, and has a well-established respirology presence. Inpatient call is equally shared and includes a 6-bed ICU. Clinic space is available in continuity with the hospital. Also, physicians have the opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University.SMRH is approximately two hours from the regions tertiary care centre, QEII Health Sciences Centre, and the tertiary care pediatric facility, the IWK Health Centre, which provides neonatal support. St. Marthas Regional Hospital was founded in 1906 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha and is approximately a 90 bed facility with more than 60 physicians practicing in a variety of medical specialties and sub-specialties.This facility serves a population of nearly 40,000 from Antigonish, Guysborough, and surrounding communities.
