Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Food Service Supervisor and Manager, Nutrition & Food Services, the Cook performs basic, routine duties related to the assembly and service of food for patients. Responsibilities include:*Preparing all menu items according to standardized recipes

  • Participating in facility menu review for both patient and cafeteria food services
  • Giving direction to assistant cooks and dietary general workers
  • Adjusting recipes according to food requirements and providing information to food service supervisor for ordering of food
  • Ensuring quality of food products in all stages of production
  • Participating in quality assurance activities
  • Operating electric, gas, steam equipment
  • Maintaining equipment in high degree of cleanliness
  • Receiving deliveries from various vendors
  • Setting up food in steam table and participating in delivery of patient food service
  • recipe and menu provision for Dial for Dining service
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 required (Employees hired prior to September 2004 exempt)
  • Red Seal Certificate or applicants with Section A or Block 1 cooking course completed, ability to demonstrate active participation in Block 2 cooking course, and a commitment towards Red Seal Certificate
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (lifting, bending, walking, standing)
  • Serv Safe Advanced course required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours of Work
  • Permanent, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
