As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker provides psychosocial support to patients and families as they cope with chronic, acute or terminal illness. Responsible for assessment, identification of unmet needs, and care/service planning and implementation for patients of SMRH, the Social Worker provides services in accordance with the policies of Nova Scotia Health and the regulations, standards of practice, and Code of Ethics of the profession of Social Work.Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work required
  • Member of, or eligible for, membership with the Nova Scotia College Social Workers (NSCSW)
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred
  • A commitment to the philosophy of client/patient centred care
  • Ability to work competently with individuals, families, and community groups/agencies
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with a variety of computer software and programs
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the position
  • Good work and attendance record
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSH patients and clients
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by NSH
  • The successful applicant will have a commitment to the mission and values of Nova Scotia Health
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
