Job Description

StFX is a top ranking Canadian university and we are seeking a Human Resources Advisor to be a part of the Universitys Human Resources department. This is a permanent position and will start as soon as possible. Under the supervision of the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor will be responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of attendance management and accommodation programs. We are seeking a Human Resources professional with experience in disability management and the ability to handle complex situations with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity. Your professional experience and education is supplemented by an ability to provide leadership to teams, work with diverse individuals, provide analysis and recommend practical solutions to issues. The Human Resources Advisor will also play a key role in the development, implementation and coordination of the Universitys Human Resources staffing, programs and services.The position is a full time position at 37.5 hours/week. The position is in Salary Band F with a range of $73,574-89,895.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for administration of the disability management and return to work program, providing day to day support to the program including; handling complex files, responding to questions from managers, employees and unions and consulting with insurance providers
  • Manages accommodation request process
  • Working in conjunction with HR staff, writes and applies relevant policies related to disability, accommodation, return to work and attendance management. Keeps apprised of changes in legislation related to the program and researches best practices and provides recommendations
  • Takes the lead on attendance management issues
  • Develops, and amends training materials on related topics such as disability management, accommodation, and return to work, attendance management and wellness initiatives. Conducts training as required
  • Assists with recruitment, selection, onboarding and orientation.
  • Provide advice and services in support of collective agreements, as well as non-unionized staff. This includes interpretation, application and implementation of the collective agreements, HR Policies and procedures, as well as managing activities relating to the implementation of the collective agreements.
  • Responsible for project management of special projects and initiatives under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources.
Qualifications:
  • University Degree in Business, Human Resources or comparable program, supplemented by training/courses in disability management.
  • A proven track record with 7-10 years experience in Human Resources management
  • Knowledge of applicable current legislation at federal and provincial levels
  • Proven research, analytical and decision making skills and abilities
  • CHRP and SHRP designations would be considered assets
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
