This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Health Services Manager of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) works with physicians and clinical staff in all health sectors to prevent the transmission of Health Care Associated Infections (HAI). They collaborate with patient/clients/residents, families and staff to develop consistent evidenced based IPAC solutions. IPAC works to provide consistent, equitable access to IPAC best practice policies, guidance, standards, education programs and consultative services across all sectors. IPAC provides leadership within Nova Scotia Health Authority’s IPAC program to achieve the best outcomes in health care program and service delivery, safe care and continuous improvement. Duties include, but are not limited to, surveillance activities, pandemic/outbreak management, acting as a resource/providing consultation to patients/clients/residents and stakeholders, providing education and training to staff, physicians and volunteers; keeping current with IPAC literature, standards and guidelines, participating in research activities, product evaluation, construction and design, infrastructure guidance, performing process audits, and applying continuous quality improvement principles.QualificationsBaccalaureate degree in Nursing or BSc in Nursing required or demonstrate reasonable evidence of willingness to pursueCurrently registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)5 years acute care clinical experienceCompletion or current enrollment in an approved IPAC Canada sponsored and endorsed Infection Control course (Where there are no applicants with this required course, consideration may be given to applicants willing to complete the course within one year of hire. Continued employment is contingent upon successfully completing the course within the year)Current certification in Infection Control (CIC) or must obtain Infection Control certification within 2 years of assuming the position and maintain certification.Proficient in the use of various computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook)Demonstrate excellent presentation, organization, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated leadership competencies and change management skillsDemonstrates ability to set own objectives with minimal supervision, assess needs of work areas, develop and implement plans of actionDemonstrate experience in the planning, implementation and delivery of teaching programs to adults in health care setting and/or community an assetDemonstrate experience in dealing tactfully with difficult situations.Qualifications ContinuedCompetencies in other languages an asset; French preferredTravel to local hospitals/long-term care facilities and quarterly meetings requiredA Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle requiredHours of WorkPermanent Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weeklyPlease note: This is a Multi site position based out of St Martha's and provides coverage to Strait RichmondSalary Information$41.3990 - $47.1507 hourly$48.8010 hourly with 25 years RN experienceThank you for your interest in this position.
