Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Pharmacy Manager of Operations, the Pharmacy Practice Assistant participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient or family centered ethical care, ensuring goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized. The Pharmacy Practice Assistant prepares, packages and dispenses medication under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Responsibilities include packaging of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, traditional and CIVA systems, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, preparation of chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics and participating in quality programs.Qualifications

  • Grade XII plus completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician/Technology Program (accredited program preferred) or equivalent experience (one year full-time experience as a hospital pharmacy technician OR two years’ experience as a community pharmacy technician)
  • Licensure in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) is an asset
  • Two years as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant experience, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Travel for other site coverage may be required; valid NS drivers license and reliable transportation required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
