The Town of Antigonish Elecric utility has an opening for a Powerline Technician - Lead Hand. The position is full time, permanent position, subject to probationary review.ResponsibilitiesAs a member of our team, you will be responsible to perform all aspects of line maintenance and construction of distribution lines ensuring compliance with safe work methods and practices under the supervision of the Working Supervisor. As a member of the Electric Utility team, you will be required to work effectively with your peers and perform the necessary administrative duties as required. This accountability involves coaching co-workers; promoting safe work procedures and vehicle safety; reporting and learning from incidents; engaging in group communications; promoting loss control; and ensuring awareness of procedures. You will also be required to meet customer needs by working effectively, representing the Town, and promoting electrical safety in the community.You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.QualificationsYou have proven leadership and communication skills, the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments, self-management skills, work ethic and a positive attitude. You possess the skills to provide mentorship and coaching to other PLT's and Apprentices. You possess a Grade XII education or equivalent, have Interprovincial Red Seal Powerline Technician Certification, and hold a valid Nova Scotia Class 3 Driver's License with airbrake endorsement. You must locate your principal residence within 30 minutes of the Town and be available for after hour emergency service restoration.A minimum of three to five (3-5) years distribution line experience as a qualified Powerline Technician is required.Pay and benefits are competitive and are established through our Collective Agreement and IBEW Local 1928.
