Job Description

Tony’s Meats Ltd. Is a federally inspected, SQF level 2 certified, meat processing facility located in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The company is seeking a full time PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIANUnder the direction of the Product Development Manager, the Product Development Technician alongside the Butcher Master shall organize and carry out new product, packaging and process development activitiesHours: Monday to Friday (7:00 am -3:30 pm)* start end times may vary pending workloadDuties/Tasks: · Work with PD Manager, Butcher Master to develop test formulations and all production, quality, and maintenance teams to physically produce test samples· Record and maintain details of all planning, plant trials, sensory analysis· Meet regularly with the product development team to provide updates on existing projects and go over details of new projects.· Work with purchasing to source ingredients, obtain quotes, specification sheets and COA’s· Ensure that all ingredients utilized are from federally registered and approved facilities and suppliers.· Liaise with supplier PD departments to develop solutions for development challenges or problems.· Develop written recipes and SOP’s when moving test product into commercial production.· Cook or otherwise appropriately prepare product for in house sensory evaluation.· Prepare samples for sales and customer presentations· Package, label and prepare samples for shipping via courier or refrigerated carrier.· Monitor industry websites, newsletters and magazines to identify trends and opportunities· Conduct grocery store visits to see what is available and where opportunities for new or improved products/packages might exist.· Develop written quality parameters for all products and provide to QC and Regulatory for addition to the companies written programs.· Provide training to operators on how to produce new or improved product· Cover key responsibilities for PD Manager.Qualifications: · Degree in Food Science, Biology or other related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.· Minimum 2 years experience working in a food production environment, preferably in a product development role.· Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an open work permit to work in Canada. · Inquisitive, entrepreneurial nature, inventive· Out of box thinker – willingness to try new things· Experience and comfort to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis· Excellent typing skills (25 wpm minimum requirement)· Intermediate to advanced experience in Microsoft Excel and Word· Experience writing technical documents· Working knowledge of HACCP principles· Working knowledge of GFSI principles required. SQF knowledge considered an asset.· Ability to work independently, under pressure and meeting deadlines· Meticulous attention to detail· Exceptional organizational skills· Exceptional multi-tasking· Comfortable with change on the fly· Excellent verbal and written communication skills· Strong interpersonal skills, comfort speaking and interacting daily with all levels of staff· Ability to work quickly, efficiently and effectively carry a heavy workload· Willingness to work with supervisors, managers and CFIA to meet company objectives· Willingness to take on duties as assigned· Willingness to work in a refrigerated environment.Personal Attributes: Independent thinker Flexible Team Player Well organized Meticulous Multi-TaskerReference ID: PDT-01Application deadline: 2021-09-09Expected start date: 2021-09-13Job Types: Full-time, PermanentSalary: $33,300.00-$37,440.00 per yearBenefits:
