This includes, but is not limited to assessment, coordination, support and evaluation of utilization processes and activities in hospitals across the zone. The Utilization and Flow Coordinator promotes optimal patient and clinical outcomes by assessing and facilitating management of care, utilization of zone resources and length of stay. The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Quality Management team Continuing Care, care and service teams/committees, health records staff, physicians and managers to identify utilization trends and issues, and to provide support and follow up as required.The Utilization and Flow Coordinator is responsible for assessing and leading inpatient Alternate Level of Care (ALC) initiatives throughout the district, and is responsible for coordinating ALC functions at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. The Coordinator is responsible for bed management and flow at the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital site. They creatively and independently problem-solve, intervene at appropriate levels and evaluate outcome of interventions. The Utilization and Flow Coordinator maintains communication with all other individuals involved in assisting with patient flow and efficiency.About YouWe would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience with demonstrated understanding of technical and/or clinical information related to acute care
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the continuum of care and knowledge of community resources.
  • Previous experience in a formal leadership role is preferred
  • Experience working in inter-disciplinary teams
  • Experience with database, statistical, word processing, and graphical presentation packages required.
  • Experience in data management an asset.
  • Familiarity with hospital-based information systems, including abstracting, case mix groups and resource intensity weighting. Understanding of CIHI hospital data/reports.
