School: Nanook ElementaryCommunity: Apex, NunavutAssignment: Principal/SSTPosition Start Date: August 29, 2022The position is 1.0 (Full-time)Position status and end date if term: June 2026The closing date for this competition is Open Until FilledPlease note: Subsidized staff housing is available BUT sharing may be required.The Nunavut Department of Education, Qikiqtani School Operations invites applications for the following position:Principal/SST (Dual responsibility as a Principal and Student Support Teacher)Grade Assignment: K-5School Description: Nanook Elementary is a K-5 school with approximately 36 students. Nanook School is in Apex Nunavut which is 5 kms from Iqaluit Nunavut. Nanook School offers outdoor curriculum and has inclusive education policies.Required qualifications:

• B.Ed.
• Must be eligible for Nunavut Professional Teaching Certificate
• Minimum 3 years experience in a School Leadership Role

Desired qualifications:

• Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written)

• Subject knowledge, training and experience relevant to the assignment

• Experience and / or training with current assessment methods

• Evidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices

• Experience and / or training in classroom management practices and the development of positive learning environments (eg. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)

• Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience

• Evidence of training and / or experience in the area of Balanced Literacy

• Training and / or teaching experience in an ESL environment

• Evidence / experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholders

• Skills / training using education-related information technology ie SMART Board Applications

• Planning skills (lesson, theme, unit, year, and student support plans)

Salary: $80,791 to $126,679 plus administrative allowance(The principal administrative allowance for Nanook Elementary is $11,703The Northern Allowance for Apex, Nunavut is $15,016Qikiqtani School Operations is committed to:
