(Please note: Failure to include your references will cause delay in processing your application.)Title: Lead Early Childhood EducatorResponsible to: Supervisor – Pre-Primary ProgramsLocation: Plymouth SchoolRole: Using a team based approach, the LECE will be responsible to create and maintain an engaging learning environment based on the children’s experiences and interests. The learning environment will be one in which children are encouraged to explore and create new knowledge through their experiences and social interactions with others. The LECE will use evidenced-based practices and professional judgement to ensure the learning environment is focused on the holistic development and overall well-being of the child/ren. The LECE will be responsible for implementing the Pre-primary Program using the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework, and all other policies and best practices as determined by TCRCE and EECD.Qualifications & Experiences

  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) or Early Childhood Education Diploma coupled with a minimum of 5 years of experience;
  • Currently holds a valid Nova Scotia ECE Classification (Level 3 or Level 2);
  • Should have a minimum of 5 years of recent, relevant experience working with preschool aged children in a regulated child care setting;
  • Should have experience providing pedagogical leadership within the context of an early learning environment;
  • Should have administrative leadership in an early learning setting;
  • Should have experience working with community partners;
  • Should have technology based skills relevant to documentation;
  • Should have a thorough knowledge of the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework, and how to implement the Framework in an Early Learning Environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Responsibilities:The responsibilities of the LECE include, but are not limited to:
  • Working within a group of Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and professionals to maintain a collaborative, team approach to program delivery;
  • Creating an inviting, active, and dynamic learning environment that supports and includes all children;
  • Delivering developmentally appropriate and engaging programming that is responsive to the interests and cultural needs of the children and community;
  • Observing, assessing, and documenting children’s developmental progress using authentic assessment strategies as outlined in the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework;
  • Is the primary point of contact with families, and facilitates family/caregiver, and community involvement in program with the support of teammates;
  • Maintaining a learning environment that is welcoming to families;
  • Maintaining open communication with families/caregivers regarding their children’s experiences and developmental progress;
  • Providing timely identification and support of children’s developmental needs through ongoing dialogue with the Supervisory of Pre-Primary, families, and community-based providers to ensure that children’s individual developmental needs are addressed within the context of the Pre-Primary program;
  • Collaborating with the Supervisor of Pre-Primary and Regional Centre Staff, to create transition plans for children requiring additional supports in preparation for entry into Primary;
  • Supporting children’s development with materials and resources that focus on emergent literacy and numeracy skills, in particular - play based skills, social emotional skills and gross and fine motor development;
  • Demonstrating and practicing appropriate behavior guidance strategies for young children, with consideration of Regional Centre and EECD policies and procedures;
  • Guiding the day to day flow of the program, including planning menus, organizing outings and/or special events, developing curriculum, and facilitating team collaboration and reflection;
  • Participating in a comprehensive, ongoing evaluation of the Pre-primary Program as determined by TCRCE and EECD;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Non Union - 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday
