Vice Principal - Drumlin - Permanent #2021-092Tri-County Regional Centre for EducationThe Tri-County Regional Centre for Education encompasses the three counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving 5757 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.Regional Centres for Education have Employment Equity Policies and/or processes and we actively encourage applications from under-represented groups, particularly people of African Nova Scotian, African Canadian and African ancestry and Mi’kmaw/Indigenous ancestry. (Please note: Failure to include your references will cause delay in processing your application.)Reports to : PrincipalAssignment :Vice Principal 50%Junior / Senior High Teacher 50%(assignment(s) to be determined)The general qualifications for any administrative positions is as follows:Either (i) A Master’s Degree in Education, concentration in Leadership or equivalent;OR (ii) Actively enrolled in a Master’s Program and have completed at least two (2) courses towards that degree;OR (iii) An Administrative Block Program;OR (iv) Nova Scotia Instructional Leadership Academy Program (NSELC);OR (v) In the Board’s judgment, have formal qualifications, including a minimum of an undergraduate degree in education and training that are equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Education.A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience;Bachelor of Education - Secondary;Superior administrative skills;A commitment to establishing partnerships with all relevant community groups;Proven to be a collegial decision maker with a demonstrated ability to be decisive and consistent;Superior skills in strategic planning and implementation of instructional programs;Knowledge of and commitment to quality inclusive education for all students;Superior ability to stimulate professional growth of staff, through effective professional development programs;Demonstrated commitment to and above average knowledge and abilities in the areas of curriculum and curriculum development, implementation and evaluation;Superior interpersonal and communications skills;Superior skills in facilities management, record keeping, financial management and in the supervision of teaching and other staff;Superior skills in the use of current technology as a tool in education;Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity and cross cultural understanding;Advocacy of firm, clear and consistent discipline practice;Superior ability to discharge the duties of a Vice Principal as set out in Section 38 of the Education At.ExperienceAdministrative Experience (preferably at similar grade levels)Teaching Experience (preferably at similar grade levels)A proven track record with students in relation to equity, diversity and inclusion.Candidates will be asked to identify their strengths and experiences in increasing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within their previous educational environment, in curriculum, and in supporting diverse students. The successful candidate should have experience working with African Nova Scotia students within the school system and within their community; An equivalent combination of qualifications and experience will also be considered.AbilitiesUnder the direction of the Principal, the Vice principal of a public school is an educational leader within the school and has shared responsibility for the school, including teachers and other staff. It is the duty of a Vice Principal to:Ensure that the public school program and curricula are implemented;Keep attendance records respecting every student enrolled at the school and report thereon to the Regional Centre, as required by the Regional Centre;Take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students enrolled in the school in accordance with policies established by the Regional Centre;Communicate regularly with the parents of the students;Ensure that reasonable steps are taken to create and maintain a safe, orderly, positive and effective learning environment;Ensure that provincial and Regional Centre policies are followed;Identify the staffing needs of the school;Assist the Regional Centre with the selection of staff for the school;Evaluate the performance of teachers and other staff of the school;Assist the Regional Centre in the development and implementation of professional development programs;Encourage teachers and other staff of the school, students and parents to participate in school decision-making through representation on school advisory councils and committees;Participate in the establishment and operation of a school council;Assist the school advisory council in the development of school improvement plans and, upon approval by the Regional Centre, co-ordinate their implementationsAccount to the Regional Centre for money received from the Centre or any other source;Co-operate with the staff of other departments and agencies of the Government to better meet the needs of the students in the school; and perform such other duties as are prescribed by this Act or the regulations or assigned by the Regional Education Director.Only Shortlisted applicants will be contacted.SECURITY CHECKS:The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education requires that all newly hired employees provide a satisfactory Child Abuse Register Check and Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Checks.
