  • PLEASE NOTE: this position is casual/on-call only. Full-time and part-time shifts are not available. You must reside within a 30-minute commute to the RCMP detachment in order to be considered for this role.*

With flexible employment opportunities and high-level guard training available, our Detention Guards do their part to give back to local communities.What’s in it for youOpportunity for growthWork for a reputable and nationally known companyA challenging yet rewarding career4% vacation paid annuallyAD&D insurance coverageYou’re a good fit if…You value and want to participate in your local communityYou live 30 minutes or less from your local RCMP DetachmentYou are detail orientedYou are available on an “as and when needed” basis and can work day or night shifts as requiredSome of your responsibilities include:Observe and check prisoners frequently and irregularlyMonitor all prisoners to ensure their security and well-beingAssist RCMP member(s) when required to search prisoners (training provided)Physical handling of prisoners is not a job requirement for Detention Guards; any movement of prisoners will be conducted by the RCMPOrganize meals, record prisoner activity and maintain a prisoner activity logbookMonitor prisoners while in hospital (when required)Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of cells when vacated or arrange janitor assistanceRecord and report any damages or repairs to cellsConduct search of cells prior to occupation and when cells are vacatedMaintain cellblock security by ensuring cell doors are locked at all timesEnsure cellblock keys are tagged and stored safelyEnsure all personal effects removed from prisoners are properly securedMonitor fire safety and be fully conversant with fire ordersHandle and dispense laundry itemsUnder the supervision of the RCMP Officer, dispense approved prescription medications to persons in custodyYour Must-Haves:Valid Occupational First Aid level 1 (St John’s Ambulance OFA1 or equivalent). Once hired, Commissionaires BC will maintain your certificationAble to obtain RCMP Reliability and Public Works Reliability Clearance (RCMP Clearance can take 4 – 6 months to obtain)Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in EnglishVision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eye glasses permitted)Able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devicesAble to use both handsYour Nice-To-Haves:Basic level computer skillsBC Security Worker LicensecGM5prc3gv
