Job Description

SBM is currently seeking a design intern to work with our civil staff in the Civil Division of our London office for a duration of 12-16 months. The Civil Engineering Intern will be responsible for assisting with the progression of a wide variety of civil engineering projects including subdivisions, site developments, and municipal projects. Some field work may be required in this role. The experience will be related with geometrical design of subdivisions, site plans, and municipal jobs, including but not limited to water distribution networks, storm servicing, sanitary servicing, storm water management as well as grading design in accordance with current standards in Ontario.Company Summary:Join the dynamic team at SBM, a leading multi-disciplinary engineering firm renowned for its innovative and collaborative approach to building solutions.   • Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with civil engineering
  • Preparation of civil engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design requirements
  • Coordinate with other team members on various projects at the same time to achieve project milestones
  • Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff
  • When required, preparation/review of tender/contract documents
  • When required, complete site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
  • Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
  • Coordinate Civil aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Completed three years towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent, and enrolled to complete the Degree
  • Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines, the Ontario Building Code, and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Capable of working on and/or managing several projects at the same time
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel within Ontario, primarily London and surrounding area.
