Job Description

As a server, you will be working a variety of evening shifts including weekends and weekdays. You will be working in an upscale restaurant setting, ensuring that daily operations are smooth and efficient. The server’s main role is to provide exceptional service, follow service standards and impact restaurant’s overall revenues, by using upselling techniques and food and beverage knowledge. The server is required to fully understand the menu and culinary techniques used along with the multiple local suppliers used on a daily basis. Wine knowledge is another integral part of the server’s abilities as beverage sales represent a very high percentage of total sales at 1888 Chophouse.Successful candidates will be matched to one of the following restaurants based upon experience:

What you will be doing:
  • Reporting to the 1888 Chophouse Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • To provide knowledgeable, personalized, and safe food and beverage experience to our guests.
  • To accept responsibility for proper guest billing, and to take necessary action in correcting any mistakes.
  • To follow all proper opening and closing procedures and reports, and to complete all duties necessary to open and to conclude a shift.
  • To ensure equipment and tools are maintained at a high standard.
  • Being able to carry three hot plates efficiently & professionally
  • Acting as concierge for all our guests if needed.
  • Maintain behaviours consistent with professionalism, including a high standard of personal grooming, appearance, etiquette and conduct.
  • To have a complete understanding and adhere to company policies related to gratuities, as well as fire emergency procedure, hygiene and safety policies.
  • To have a complete understanding of the hotel’s employee handbook and adhere to the regulations within.
  • To work efficiently, responsibly, and maturely as a team with all colleagues throughout the hotel.
  • To work in any other venues as needed.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties assigned.
Your experience and skills include:
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a server in a modern upscale dining room.
  • Must have a drive to provide the best possible experience for guests.
  • Must be able to work under stress while remaining calm and positive.
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be well spoken and have the ability to describe the menu in a professional matter. Menu knowledge, culinary terms, local farms and beverage knowledge are required.
  • Must have proven sales skills in this industry and the desire to increase average checks on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to make responsible, independent decisions
  • Must have extensive wine knowledge and a passion for it. WSET wine certification Level 2 is required, Level 3 will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of different meat cuts, wines and bartending an asset.
  • High School diploma required, Hospitality education will be considered an asset.
  • Upscale serving experience required.
