Job Description

Assistant Production ManagerThis is a term position ending September 9, 2022Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.We acknowledge, with deep respect and gratitude, our home on the side of Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.The OpportunityThe Assistant Production Manager is responsible for delivering the day to day production and stage management needs of Performing Arts events, and assists in the production planning process by advising and assisting the Technical Director. The primary function is to provide the expertise required for the smooth and efficient presentation of all programs and events, thus contributing to the artistic and staging success of the Banff Centre programming and events, presentations, and shows. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all artist production equipment.Roles and ResponsibilitiesReporting to Technical Director, Performing Arts, below are some key accountabilities:Production Management

  • In conjunction with Technical Director, provide input on production resources required (staff scheduling, facilities, equipment) for all programs, concerts, and events.
  • Liaise with performers, faculty, technical direction, all production departments on all day to day and event needs and production requests (including scheduling queries, equipment and facility requests etc.).
  • Execute and operate technical requirements (sound/lighting/staging/rigging/video) as required provided by the artistic directors, program managers, and external clients.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost effective methods of providing all necessary production requirements for presentations and develop accurate costings.
  • Review in consultation with the Technical Director the production requirements for each program or event and generate or adjust working drawings in computer drafting programs as necessary.
  • Adhere to deadlines and apply appropriate production techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts.
  • Assist in preparation of production schedules and actively participate in the planning stages of each program and event.
  • Be knowledgeable of related industry trends to include the application of up to date techniques and use of special materials and current health and safety standards as well as being familiar with the accident prevention manual.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of production and/or stage management and technical experience.
  • A university degree relating to technical theatre, music or audio production.
  • The incumbent must possess an acceptable level of technical skills as related to computer programs, theatre staging, theatre lighting, sound reinforcement, audio and video production.
  • The incumbent must possess strong inter-personal, planning and communication skills, and be adept at problem solving and decision-making.
Special Requirements
  • Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms and Benefits
  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500 hour probationary period.
  • This position pays between $27.06 to $30.00 per hour based on experience, working 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
