Job Description

Data Analyst/Transit PlannerThe Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission (BVRTSC) is looking to add a permanent full-time Data Analyst/Transit Planner to our team. We provide public transit to both visitors and residents looking to enjoy the Bow Valley without the use of a private vehicle. Our team members make an impact in our communities every day. They constantly work towards being responsive to our customers, by embracing technology and reacting quickly to transit issues, trends, and solutions.Job Profile:Position SummaryReporting to and collaborating with the Manager of Operations, this is a multi-functional position providing critical input for the short and long-term planning of Roam transit service throughout the Bow Valley. In addition to assisting with short and long term transit planning, a large component of this position will be analyzing the vast amount of transit service and performance information we collect and distilling it into insightful KPIs. You will be responsible for analyzing transportation operational data, creating service design proposals, running simulations, assessing key performance indicators, supporting the launch of new services, identifying areas for operational improvement, and providing technical systems support for Roam operations.Responsibilities:Data Analysis

  • Maintain existing and design new data dashboards, reports, and processes for Key Performance Indicators including fuel/energy usage, ridership by service hour, on-time performance, origin/destination surveys and more.
  • Collect, analyze, and provide detailed reports of route performance, customer satisfaction and other quality control studies and surveys.
  • Assist in examining trends, identifying service needs, and developing strategies to enhance services.
  • Collaborate with Roam team members to design performance analysis reports spanning rider user-experience, driver user-experience, and operating efficiency.
  • Perform ad-hoc data analysis tasks to compare service performance against goals, evaluate trends, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Planning
  • Work together with Roam Administration, Operations, Commission partners, consultants, and stakeholders to develop and implement effective transportation solutions in the Bow Valley. This includes identifying opportunities for efficiencies within Roam’s current transit system, as well as developing initial designs/recommendations for service expansion within the Bow Valley.
  • You will work with transit specific planning technology including Remix, Trillium GTFS Manager, Doublemap, and Optibus.
Qualifications:Education (minimum):
  • Bachelor’s degree related to transportation management, transportation planning, or business administration and/or equivalent university degree in conjunction with relevant work experience preferably in transit/transportation operations or transit/transportation planning.
-Or-
  • A College diploma will be considered in a relevant field of discipline if related and relevant experience exceeds the minimum experience level
Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in data analysis.
  • Experience in public transit or transportation considered an asset
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Strong technical skills, particularly with analytical tools including spreadsheets, dashboards, databases, and reporting and planning software. (Google Sheets, Google Data Studio, MS Excel, Word, GTFS, web-based reporting software.)
  • Working knowledge of transit, logistics, and/or transportation operations to be able to identify areas for improvement.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems and balance long- and short-term needs.
  • Ability to take initiative and learn and work independently and in a team environment.
Other Requirements, Conditions:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, oral and written.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Must pass police security clearance.
  • Alberta Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.
